PROJECT

As part of the university’s long-term infrastructure development plan, the addition of two linked auditoriums, a 400 and 200-seater, will play a major role in the rapidly growing institution. The facility forms part of an overall masterplan for the campus and will be primarily used by the commerce faculties.

Linked by a covered outside entrance area, the two auditoriums now form a termination point for an extended student mall. By utilising a radial seating arrangement, there is maximum connectivity to the presentation area at the front. The diamond-shaped building plan, with stepped levels and sound dampening treatment on the back walls and ceilings, further enhances the acoustic performance. A unique outside ‘in-between’ space with expansive views provides space for performance art events as well as more informal gatherings.

The clever utilisation of layout and the large pitched roofscapes create an integrated water-harvesting system that uses gravity to feed collected rainwater to the internal supply points. Together with the sensitive selection of robust fixtures and material finishes, this further helps to reduce building running costs and maintenance.
